FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk secured first place in UEFA Europa League Group F after triumphing 2-1 at PSV Eindhoven.

Dick Advocaat's side opened the scoring with a fine Georginio Wijnaldum effort on 18 minutes. Yevhen Seleznyov quickly levelled and then Yevhen Konoplyanka sealed all three points for Dnipro, condemning PSV to a first home defeat in UEFA competition since December 2008. The Ukrainian team, who had Jaba Kankava sent off late on, finish as group winners; the Eredivisie leaders are eliminated after SSC Napoli's victory at AIK.

The first chance arrived on five minutes, Timothy Derijck outjumping goalkeeper Jan Laštůvka to reach Dries Mertens's cross but nodding over. Wilfred Bouma also missed the target with a strong header from a Mertens corner. It was third time lucky, however, when PSV took the lead with their next serious attack. Atiba Hutchinson threaded a clever pass through to Wijnaldum, who planted a first-time drive from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

Dnipro's response came six minutes later. Ivan Strinić surged into the PSV area from the right and his low centre was bundled over the line by the sliding Seleznyov. Juande Ramos's men went within a whisker of gaining the initiative when Matheus outstripped the home defence and rounded Boy Waterman, only to see his effort cleared by Bouma. Seleznyov then poked a shot centimetres wide with the PSV keeper stranded.

Laštůvka made a fine one-handed stop from Tim Matavž early in the second period, but thereafter it was the Premier-Liha outfit who enjoyed the better of the match. Waterman denied Matheus from close range but had no chance on 74 minutes when Konoplyanka curled in an absolute beauty from just outside the box after being set up by Seleznyov. Even Kankava's dismissal for a second yellow card could not spur PSV on to a late equaliser.
