Greece frustrated by Bosnia and Herzegovina

Greece 0-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Group G's early pacesetters could not be seperated in Piraeus, playing out a stalemate despite Fernando Santos' home team striking the woodwork twice.

Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina could not be separated in Piraeus as Group G's early pacesetters played out a goalless draw.

Both side's came into the game with six points from their opening two matches, with the visitors having scored 12 goals. It was Greece who threatened more on the night, striking the woodwork twice, but the stalemate means the teams sit locked on seven points, alongside Slovakia who defeated Latvia in their latest outing.

It was the hosts who went closest on the counterattack early on, Giorgos Samaras breaking forward and playing in Fanis Gekas who struck the left-hand post with Asmir Begović beaten. Safet Sušić's men responded and a close-range effort from Zvjezdan Misimović was cleared off the line by Giannis Maniatis.

The game was open and flowing from end to end, and Greece were once again denied by the woodwork on 33 minutes as Vassilis Torossidis' powerful effort came back off the crossbar. Senad Lulić was then denied by an excellent save from home goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis just before the break.

The open first period contrasted with a cautious second half, Greece attempting to control the game in midfield. Despite fewer chances substitute Dimitris Salpingidis had a golden opening to snatch the win, and outright leadership of the group, for Fernando Santos' side on 79 minutes, but his low effort was blocked by the foot of Begović and the points were shared.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will aim to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when they host Lithuania, while Greece travel to Bratislava to face Slovakia.
