Lewandowski-inspired Poland beat San Marino

Poland 5-0 San Marino
Captain for the first time, Robert Lewandowski ended his international drought with two penalties to help Poland to a comfortable victory.

Poland kept touch with the FIFA World Cup qualifying Group H pacesetters courtesy of a 5-0 home win against San Marino.

Robert Lewandowski scored a penalty in each half for Poland, his first international goals since his country's 1-1 draw with Greece in the opening game of UEFA EURO 2012. Łukasz Piszczek, Łukasz Teodorczyk and Jakub Kosecki also got in on the act to ensure Waldemar Fornalik's side remain level with Ukraine, four points behind England and six adrift of section leaders Montenegro.

Lewandowski, leading scorer in the Bundesliga with 19 goals, was on a nine-match drought with Poland prior to tonight. Back in Warsaw as the hosts' captain, however, he ended his wait with a spot kick midway through the first period. Piszczek picked up a precise pass from Adrian Mierzejewski and finished from eight metres to double Poland's advantage just before the half-hour.

Lewandowski made it three with another penalty soon after the interval and Teodorczyk added a fourth on 61 minutes following a fine ball from Kamil Grosicki. Kosecki rounded off the night in added time with his first national-team goal, Lewandowski this time the creator.
