BATE glad but the battle continues

A 3-1 win over FC Bayern München will not go to FC BATE Borisov's heads, with goalkeeper Andrei Gorbunov reminding his side they must "fight for a positive result in every game".

A sensational UEFA Champions League victory over FC Bayern München will not alter the grounded outlook of the FC BATE Borisov players, who were united in their desire to keep up the hard work ahead of their meetings with Valencia CF in Group F, while Holger Badstuber cursed the visitors' lack of finesse in Minsk.

Andrei Gorbunov, BATE goalkeeper
It was a very difficult and demanding game. I had to be constantly on my toes as Bayern hardly gave me a minute to relax. Of course, I was lucky at times, and also managed to save my team-mates on a few occasions, although I could not keep a clean sheet in the end. I wouldn't say Franck Ribéry's shot was impossible to save. If the visitors had got the first goal, we would have seen another game.

Everything was good for us in the end, though. Now we will host Valencia and can be happy that we are leading the group. However, it is too early to think about qualifying. We are not the favourites. We have to fight for a positive result in every game, and then we'll have a chance to achieve something.

Aleksandr Hleb, BATE midfielder
That was a very tough match, but we fought until the end. It is a sensational result for us. We will celebrate a bit now, but then we have to work hard again. Bayern remain the favourites in our group. We understand that we've only won one game. The hardest tasks lie ahead.

Vitali Rodionov, BATE forward
We spent most of the game defending, and that was really difficult. This is a team victory. It is very good that everybody's nerve held until the end. We were lucky to convert our chances and get a victory, but there is no place for euphoria. A positive result against Bayern allows us to be optimistic as we prepare for our next games.

Mikhail Sivakov, BATE midfielder
Our supporters were sensational. This victory is theirs as well. Now we are going to celebrate a bit and then start getting ready for the games against Valencia. We are top of the group now and have to think ahead.

Holger Badstuber, Bayern defender
We don't know how we conceded against that team, but we just weren't aggressive enough in one-on-ones to win the ball while they were clinical with their counterattacks. That was enough in the end. They scored the opener, but if we had then taken the chance we had, it would have finished differently. After that, we were trying to equalise and their second goal was decisive.

We take every opponent seriously. We knew what to expect here, especially after they beat Lille 3-1 away. Now we just have to stay calm. We shouldn't lose our heads – we know what we are capable of. We have to win our next home game [against LOSC] and then it looks different again.
