Kombarov brothers yearn for lasting association

"Our dream is to play football together for the rest of our careers," Kirill Kombarov told UEFA.com on behalf of his twin brother and FC Spartak Moskva team-mate Dmitri.

FC Spartak Moskva showed great unity when they overcame UEFA Champions League Group G rivals SL Benfica 2-1 in Russia on matchday three. Their twin representatives, Kirill and Dmitri Kombarov, epitomise that togetherness and spoke to UEFA.com about their unbreakable bond on and off the pitch.

The 25-year-olds began their footballing education with Spartak in 1993, before joining city rivals FC Dinamo Moskva in 2001. Nine years later they returned to their spiritual home guided by intense feelings of nostalgia. "We had so many good memories having spent so many years with Spartak," said midfielder Dmitri. "When they asked us to come back, we remembered the past and it was an easy decision to make."

Their relationship is heartwarming, and at times mightily effective. "We help each other during hard times and situations. We know each other on a deep level, better than any two people on this earth," said defender Kirill. "We sense each other on the pitch. There have been lots of moments when I've passed him the ball and he's scored or vice versa."
