David Silva

Manchester City FC

• Won a place in the Premier League Team of the Year thanks to his outstanding contribution to Manchester City FC's title triumph, which included 18 assists – the most in the division – and six goals.

• Returned to the fore with Spain at UEFA EURO 2012 after falling out of favour at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and started all six matches in La Roja's successful campaign, scoring two goals – including the opener in the final against Italy with a rare header – and setting up three others.

• Signed a new five-year contract with City in September and helped the club make an unbeaten start to their Premier League title defence in the first two months of the campaign.
