Galatasaray lose Elmander to thigh injury

Galatasaray AŞ will be denied the services of Johan Elmander for at least six weeks after the striker tore a muscle in his right thigh during Tuesday's 1-1 draw with CFR 1907 Cluj.

Turkish champions Galatasaray AŞ have suffered an injury blow with the news that Johan Elmander will be out for at least six weeks after he tore a muscle in his right thigh.

The Sweden striker – who has scored three goals in six top-flight appearances this term – lasted just 42 minutes of Tuesday's 1-1 UEFA Champions League home draw with CFR 1907 Cluj before sustaining an 11cm tear. Elmander, 31, is now certain to miss Galatasaray's remaining Group H fixtures, starting with the return trip to Romanian title holders CFR on 7 November.

Fatih Terim's team are three points off second place and eight behind group pace setters Manchester United FC after collecting one point from their opening three games.
