Watt overjoyed by 'extra special' Celtic goal

"It's the most special goal of my life – I don't know if I'll ever score a goal as important as that in my career," said Tony Watt after Celtic FC's 2-1 defeat of FC Barcelona.

Fraser Forster hailed the fighting qualities of Celtic FC while 18-year-old substitute Tony Watt spoke of scoring "the most special goal of my life" as they reflected on a remarkable 2-1 home win against FC Barcelona in UEFA Champions League Group G. The Hoops were disappointed to lose 2-1 in the corresponding fixture a fortnight ago, but goals from Victor Wanyama and Watt – making his competition debut – have left Neil Lennon's men in a strong position. Barcelona defender Marc Bartra mulled over a frustrating evening yet was still confident his team could qualify as section winners.

Tony Watt, Celtic forward
It's the most special goal of my life. I don't know if I'll ever score a goal as important as that in my career, the second goal in a 2-1 win. It's my first goal at Parkhead as well so it's extra special for me. It was just a long ball out from Fraser, one of their players missed it and I went past [Javier] Mascherano and put it away. It makes up for the defeat at the Nou Camp. They got three points, now we've got three points. We need to see how far we can go in the group and hopefully do our best to qualify.

Fraser Forster, Celtic goalkeeper
It was a fantastic team performance. I'm delighted to have made some saves and contributed, but we put up an amazing fight for the 90 minutes. We had a lot of injuries, but we coped with it ever so well and I'm delighted with the result. I like the challenge of the big games – they're the ones you dream about playing in as a kid.

It makes up for the disappointment of the defeat in the Nou Camp. Ideally we would have liked to have taken something out of that game as well, but to beat them here at Celtic Park in front of 60,000 fans was tremendous. The game was a bit more open than at the Nou Camp but we learned a lot from a couple of weeks ago. It's a very good result but we need to focus on our next game and keep picking up points.

Marc Bartra, Barcelona defender
It was a similar game to the first one in the Camp Nou. They played very defensively and they scored the first goal from a set piece. We could not come back like we did in the first game, but we fought until the end and that is also important. They scored from the two chances they had, but the same did not apply to us. Now we need to move on and fight to win the next game. We know it's in our hands. We are the group leaders and that is the main thing.
