Tough task for Greece

Greece, Germany and Sweden know their opponents in the group stage of the women's Olympic tournament.

Greece face a daunting task in August's Olympic football tournament after learning their group opponents today along with fellow Europeans Germany and Sweden.

Greece face US
Hosts Greece are in Group G with the United States, deposed as FIFA Women's World Cup holders last year by Germany, a Brazilian side boasting Marta - the star of this season's UEFA Women's Cup - and Oceania champions Australia.

German test
World and European champions Germany are in Group F with China, Canada and Mexico. "The Chinese have just beaten us in our own backyard, so we will have to give it everything we have got against them," said Heike Ullrich of the German Football Association. "We are also familiar with the Mexicans and know they deserve total respect."

Swedish opponents
Sweden take on African champions Nigeria - who they beat 3-0 en route to the final of the World Cup - and Japan. The top two from each group, the third-placed team in Group G and the third-placed team with the best record from the other two pools advance to the quarter-finals.

Norway eliminated
Germany, bronze medallists in 2000, qualified along with Sweden as the two best European teams at the World Cup. Sweden have gone out in the group stages in both previous tournaments, while Norway - gold medallists in Sydney - did not qualify. The tournament is played across Greece from 11-26 August.
