Young Boys happy to shake up Group A

"We'll now try to do what nobody expected of us – to get through," said BSC Young Boys' Elsad Zverotić after his equaliser at Anfield hampered Liverpool FC's Group A progress.

There was frustration in the Liverpool FC camp after BSC Young Boys' late equaliser at Anfield denied the home side early qualification for the UEFA Europa League last 32. However, while midfielder-cum-forward Jonjo Shelvey insisted Brendan Rodgers' team would finish the job at Udinese Calcio on the final matchday, a reprieved Young Boys believe they can provide another twist in the Group A plot. Elsad Zverotić, scorer of the 88th-minute equaliser that spared them elimination and sent their 2,300 fans at Anfield into raptures, promised: "We'll now try to do what nobody expected of us – to get through."

I'm a bit disappointed. We should have won the game but it was a lack of concentration towards the end. We'll push on from here and try to get the points against Udinese to ensure we qualify. It will be difficult – it was a difficult game here [when Udinese prevailed 3-2] although I thought we should have won that day.

I found it alright to be honest [playing up front]. It is an unfamiliar role but I thought I did well. The manager said: 'Don't play too far up the pitch – keep getting in the holes and turning and driving at the defence.' I hope I have done what the gaffer had in mind.

Everyone is angry. We must win a home game like this – a 2-2 draw is not good. In the first half we could have scored more, in the second half too. They had two chances and they scored two goals. It was bad for us. We could have won today to qualify. Now it is difficult but I think we can win in Udinese.

Naturally I'm delighted with a draw against a team like Liverpool. We are very, very happy with the result and the game we played – we showed we can play football at a place like Liverpool. In the first half we started well in the opening stages but had an injury to a team-mate and the game became more open and Liverpool started to attack more. We defended very well, they got the goal but we were able to attack too and get a goal, which was very important. We kept battling, and in the second half it became more open as Liverpool went for the second goal.

I'm very happy to score a goal – a very good goal – and especially with it being against Liverpool in their stadium. It showed we don't give in; we were able to come back after going 2-1 down, we kept battling and trying to create chances, and happily at the end we got the shot in from outside the box. It was another lovely goal and we're delighted.

Elsad Zverotić, Young Boys defender
It's great to score but we played together as a team today and it is good to take a point at Anfield. Everything is still possible as nobody expected we'd take it to the last match, and we'll now try to do what nobody expected of us, which is to get through.
