Milan's De Jong suffers season-ending injury

UEFA Champions League contenders AC Milan have been dealt a blow with the news that Nigel de Jong will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his left Achilles tendon.

AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his left Achilles tendon in the club's 4-2 win at Torino FC on Sunday.

"The lads have dedicated the victory to Nigel, who unfortunately has suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury that will see him out for the season," commented coach Massimiliano Allegri after the Rossoneri's third straight league success. "It's a big loss for the team and takes the shine off the win," added Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.

The 28-year-old Dutchman, who joined from Manchester City FC in the summer, featured four times in this season's UEFA Champions League as Milan finished second in Group C to book their place in the round of 16.
