Drogba's greatest UEFA Champions League hits

With Didier Drogba returning to Chelsea FC, UEFA.com recalls five of his top UEFA Champions League moments, including two hat-tricks and a final-winning penalty.

Didier Drogba says his "desire to win is still the same" following his return to Chelsea FC from Galatasaray AŞ.

The Ivory Coast striker boasts a wealth of experience, scoring 34 goals in 69 appearances in Europe's premier club competition during his first spell with the Blues. He featured in two finals, inspiring the Blues to glory in May 2012.

To mark the 36-year-old's return to the club whom he inspired to UEFA Champions League success, UEFA.com recalls some of his greatest hits in the competition.

01/10/2003: Olympique de Marseille 3-0 FK Partizan
Having struck on his group stage debut, a 4-2 loss to Real Madrid CF, OM's summer signing from EA Guingamp swept ten-man Partizan aside with a devastating 23-minute hat-trick at Stade Vélodrome.

14/09/2004: Paris Saint-Germain FC 0-3 Chelsea FC
Drogba celebrated his return to France in style following his reported €36m move to west London two months earlier, scoring twice as José Mourinho, fresh from guiding FC Porto to European glory the previous season, sampled victory in his first UEFA Champions League game as Blues manager.

27/09/2006: PFC Levski Sofia 1-3 Chelsea FC
That Chelsea built on their matchday one defeat of SV Werder Bremen was thanks to Drogba, who registered his second, and most recent, UEFA Champions League treble. Only three players – Filippo Inzaghi, Lionel Messi and Mario Gomez – have more hat-tricks to their name in the competition.

30/04/2008: Chelsea FC 3-2 Liverpool FC
The forward's double against the Reds, Chelsea's nemesis in two of the previous three European Cup semi-finals, sent the Stamford Bridge club through to their first showpiece. The tie was 1-1 following the first leg and goals from Drogba and Fernando Torres ensured a repeat at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard's extra-time penalty restored Chelsea's lead and Drogba, crucially, doubled it; Ryan Babel's reply was mere consolation.

19/05/2012: FC Bayern München 1-1 Chelsea FC
Drogba saved his best for last on his Chelsea swan song. With Roberto Di Matteo's team trailing in the Munich final to Thomas Müller's effort, Drogba met Juan Mata's corner with a powerful near-post header to force extra time. Petr Čech's 95th-minute penalty save took the match to a shoot-out, where failures from Ivica Olić and Bastian Schweinsteiger allowed Drogba to step up and convert the decisive spot kick. It helped banish memories of Chelsea's painful showpiece loss to Manchester United FC four years earlier.
