Schalke lose Uchida for Galatasaray trip

Atsuto Uchida has been ruled out of FC Schalke 04's UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at Galatasaray AŞ next Wednesday after succumbing to a thigh strain.

FC Schalke 04 have been deprived of full-back Atsuto Uchida for next Wednesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at Galatasaray AŞ.

The Japanese international, who featured in four of the Bundesliga club's Group B fixtures, has succumbed to a thigh strain, although the extent of the injury is yet to be determined. Uchida, 24, joined the Royal Blues from Kashima Antlers in 2010 and has since made 59 league appearances, scoring once. The return leg in Gelsenkirchen will take place on Tuesday 12 March.
