Klopp thinking positive ahead of Málaga test

Jürgen Klopp is hoping Borussia Dortmund can write another chapter in this season's "wonderful story" as they take on a Málaga CF side hoping to win for their grieving coach.

Borussia Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp was in ebullient mood as he looked ahead to Tuesday's second leg against Málaga CF with a UEFA Champions League semi-final spot at stake.

The German side drew 0-0 in Spain last week, and Klopp has instructed his players to ignore the naysayers who believe it is advantage Málaga. Positivity reigns, grounded in his side's campaign to date, his faith in his players and their fervent support. Visiting defender Martín Demichelis knows all about that from his time at FC Bayern München but his thoughts were mainly with coach Manuel Pellegrini, expected back from Chile at the last minute following the death of his father. "We would like to win this one for him," he said.

Jürgen Klopp, coach

I told the lads today at training that we heard far too many negative comments about the first-leg result. I have no idea how anyone can think you win in Malaga just like that. Everything that has happened so far in this campaign, the first leg included, has been extremely positive. But that does not guarantee anything.

We want to continue to write this wonderful story that the Champions League is for us. We are still keen to go on in this competition. Everyone is really looking forward to this. There are two extreme ways of approaching a game like this. Either you feel only the pressure or you feel only the sense of opportunity. The latter has served us well so far.

A mixture of talent, mentality and the interaction between the team and spectators has made us strong at home. The atmosphere in Malaga was really good, but I believe we can top that – and we need to.

It is possible that tomorrow will be our last big night for a while, so why not go out there and give everything there is? That said, everyone wants to be 5-0 up after 12 minutes and ease through; I doubt Málaga will do us that favour. So we need patience. If you want to reach the semis, you have to endure difficult moments and we have done that so far.

Weekend result
Saturday: Dortmund 4-2 FC Augsburg (Schieber 22 52, Subotić 64, Lewandowski 90+2; Baier 43, Vogt 44)
Langerak; Grosskreutz, Subotić, Felipe Santana, Schmelzer; Bender, Şahin; Hofmann, Leitner (Götze 52), Bittencourt (Lewandowski 52); Schieber (Kehl 83).

• Jonas Hofmann and Leonardo Bittencourt were given full Bundesliga debuts while Mitchell Langerak made only his second appearance of the season as Dortmund claimed a fifth successive home win; they have struck three or more each time. Robert Lewandowski scored in his tenth Bundesliga game running.

Team news
Roman Weidenfeller (back) and Marco Reus (stomach muscle) are available after they were rested on Saturday with minor knocks and Klopp says longer-term absentees Mats Hummels (ankle ligaments) and Jakub Błaszczykowski (muscle strain) are back. Marcel Schmelzer has been wearing a face mask since breaking his nose at VfB Stuttgart on 30 March.

Málaga
Martín Demichelis, defender
I know just what atmosphere to expect from the stands but it should not faze us however. The first leg was not a bad result for us and any who believe Dortmund are as good as through are mistaken.

We would like to win this one for [Pellegrini]. We are all sad. He did not tell us at first about his father passing away, that shows his greatness. We have offered him our condolences. He will be with us tomorrow and we will try everything to go through for him.

You can see a clear philosophy with Dortmund. Almost every mistake is punished, because they attack so quickly. They run a lot and play dangerous high-tempo precision football. They are incredibly dangerous. We would be well served keeping them far away from our goal.

I am still in contact with many players at Bayern – I was there for seven-and-a-half years – but I did not speak to them about the Dortmund match; I only congratulated them on winning the Bundesliga.

Weekend result
Saturday: Real Sociedad de Fútbol 4-2 Málaga
(Vela 21, De La Bella 24, Griezmann 30, Iñigo Martínez 51; Morales 43, Santa Cruz 70)
Kameni; Sánchez, Lugano, Weligton, Antunes; Iturra, Camacho (Júlio Baptista 75); Morales (Piazón 64), Portillo (Duda 58), Seba; Santa Cruz.

• Featuring just three of the side that started the first leg against Dortmund – Antunes, Weligton and Manuel Iturra – Málaga suffered a loss that leaves them four points adrift of their fourth-placed opponents. Pellegrini's side have managed just six wins in 19 outings in 2013.

Team news
Iturra and Weligton are suspended after their first-leg bookings but otherwise everyone is available after Eliseu, out with a knee ligament injury since 3 February, returned to training on Sunday.

Match fact
Should Málaga reach the semi-finals they will match the debut-season achievement of Pellegrini's Villarreal CF, who lost to Arsenal FC in the 2005/06 last four.
