Serbia moved above Belgium at the top of UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying Group 9 after Aleksandar Mitrović struck twice in a 3-0 victory in Louvain.

The RSC Anderlecht forward met Filip Kostić's corner with a brilliant header on 11 minutes to set his side on their way, and was only denied a second in similar circumstances by Colin Coosemans' save nine minutes later. Julien De Sart went close with a header at the other end, before Marko Dmitrović did well to block Michy Batshuayi's strike early in the second period.

That proved to be an important intervention; Darko Brašanac scored from Miloš Jojić's cross soon afterwards, and it only took three more minutes for Kostić and Mitrović to team up again for another headed goal.

"Thanks to our defence, Belgium did not have a lot of space and a lot of chances," Mitrović said later. "Belgium have a great team and I think they will be up with us in the final reckoning. Now we have to win in Italy, then Belgium can finish second in the group."
