Following the departure of Philippe Montanier to Stade Rennais FC, Real Sociedad de Fútbol have turned to the Frenchman's former assistant Jagoba Arrasate to take the helm of the UEFA Champions League hopefuls.

Montanier worked closely with 35-year-old Arrasate as the San Sebastian outfit finished an impressive 2012/13 Liga campaign in fourth place. After announcing that the former Berriatuko FT and CD Elgobiar coach would be handed the reins, Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay said: "Jagoba has full knowledge of the internal workings of La Real, as well as the characteristics we are looking for. I don't see this as a gamble. We want to continue along the same path we set out upon and it is an opportune time for [Arrasate] to take charge."

Arrasate is a former youth-team player with Real Sociedad, who will attempt to enter the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time since 2003/04 by successfully negotiating an August play-off.
