FC Schalke 04 have continued to strengthen for the UEFA Champions League play-off round with the addition of striker Ádám Szalai from 1. FSV Mainz 05.
The Hungary forward, 25, has signed a four-year contract after moving for an €8.5m fee. A VfB Stuttgart product, Szalai was with Real Madrid CF's reserves until his 2010 switch to Mainz, and scored 13 Bundesliga goals last season.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt, who has already overseen the arrivals of Felipe Santana and Christian Clemens, said "Ádám has a strong mentality, is tenacious, ambitious and converts a good number of his chances.
"We didn't have good enough cover for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar when he was injured last season. Szalai brings us a step closer to changing that. Squad competition is important."
