Mourinho frustrated by Sparta

José Mourinho admitted his FC Porto team did not play well as they bowed out of the competition.

FC Porto coach José Mourinho watched his side bow out of the UEFA Champions League at AC Sparta Praha's Letná stadium and said: "We didn't play well."

'Lost concentration'
Two sparkling second-half Sparta goals ensured Mourinho's men missed out on qualifying for the quarter-final stage from Group C and the coach was understandably despondent. He said: "After the first goal my players lost their concentration. Nobody wanted to play, nobody wanted the ball. I tried to change my team - and it got better for about ten minutes - but we didn't create the chances."

Hrebík delighted
But Sparta coach Jaroslav Hrebík was delighted with his side's display. He said: "My team was better. Porto needed to win but we showed a faultless performance. The win was absolutely deserved. I'm very satisfied, especially with Libor Sionko, Jirí Jarošik, Tomáš Cízek and Jirí Novotny. This season we have shown how Czech teams can play against good teams in good matches and get good results. I'm very happy."

'Important goal'
A solo run and shot from Sionko on 63 minutes lit up the game, and the striker later said: "I'm happy I scored such an important goal and that we won."

Gracious in defeat
But it was Jarošik's rifled free-kick 20 minutes from time that sealed the defeat for Porto, although Mourinho was gracious in defeat. He added: "Sparta are strong and tight - they're difficult to play against. The Champions League is over now, but congratulations to Sparta."
