While 14 years have passed since Olympiacos FC enjoyed their most successful UEFA Champions League campaign by reaching the last eight, there remains a growing sense of optimism that Míchel's current side are on to something big.

Kostas Mitroglou, who became the first Greek to hit a UEFA Champions League hat-trick in the 3-0 victory at RSC Anderlecht on matchday two, has played no small part in sparking a feel-good factor in Piraeus. "It was a very difficult game but we managed to win and keep a clean sheet. I was very happy to score three goals – I've worked hard for this, as have all the players and the coach," said the forward.

Since leaving VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach's youth set-up to join Olympiacos in 2007, Mitroglou has struck 40 goals in 83 Greek Super League appearances, and caught the eye in last season's UEFA Champions League group stage by registering four times. "I'm there for the team when they need me," explained the 25-year-old, who combines natural flair with a penchant for learning.

"I firmly believe you need to be born talented to be a good striker. You also have to learn from each game, each training session," the Greek international, who grew up in Germany, told UEFA.com. "Experience counts for everything in this position. The best defenders in the game compete in the Champions League so it's tough and you don't get many chances. I'm always up for the challenge, though."
