Thigh blow lays Jiránek low

Martin Jiránek will not be fit to play in the Czech Republic's UEFA EURO 2004™ semi-final against Greece having failed to recover from a thigh injury.

'Needs more time'
The 25-year-old Reggina Calcio right-back suffered the injury in the first half of the 3-0 quarter-final victory against Denmark on Sunday. Intensive treatment has failed to clear up the problem, team doctor Petr Krejci saying: "He needs more time to recover as it's a bad injury."

Bolf boost
AFC Ajax defender Zdenek Grygera is his likely deputy, having replaced Jiránek at the Estádio do Dragão. Central defender René Bolf, who was also injured against Denmark, should be fit to play against Greece in Porto on Thursday. The 30-year-old was expected to train today.
