Kumordzi thrilled as Genk finish the job

"It was a great night," said Bennard Kumordzi after KRC Genk reached the last 32, with Jeremain Lens challenging his FC Dynamo Kyiv side to make amends on matchday six.

Midfielder Bennard Kumordzi reflected on "a great night for me and the team" after KRC Genk recovered from going a goal down to beat FC Dynamo Kyiv 3-1 and claim top spot in UEFA Europa League Group G. However, visiting forward Jeremain Lens was confident the Ukrainian giants would get the point they require to progress at home to SK Rapid Wien on the final matchday.

Bennard Kumordzi, Genk midfielder
Of course, it was a great night for me and the team. After a disappointing league defeat on Saturday it was very important for us to get back to our true standard. Football is our job, so when things go badly you have to wake up and start to do it well because that's what we get paid for.

The first 20 minutes weren't good and the coach said we gave them too much respect. After 20 minutes, we stepped up and that was very important. Whether we can go further than last season depends on the draw but we approach every game with the same motivation and if we play like we did tonight beyond the 20-minute mark then I think we can do better than last term.

Thomas Buffel, Genk midfielder
We had a difficult start to the match and went behind because I think we showed a little bit too much respect to them. They do have a good side, but after that we improved and tried to get back into the game. After a pretty good counter we got a penalty and that gave us the confidence to push on and score the second and then the third. In the second half we controlled the game and I think we deserved to win.

The second goal was a very good goal as I got to the byline and crossed to the back post for our striker Jelle Vossen who headed across for Kumordzi to tap in. We're going to finish top of the group and that's good for the draw. I think our squad is a little bit more mature than last season when we were a bit unlucky against Stuttgart in the round of 32. Maybe now we have more experience we'll play in a more mature fashion.

Jeremain Lens, Dynamo forward
We started OK and went 1-0 up. They equalised with a penalty and after that we weren't so good. It was 2-1, then 3-1, and then it was over. Of course we're confident we'll get the point against Rapid in the last game that we need – if you don't have confidence in yourselves then there's no point playing. We will get points in that game, whether it's one or three, and then we have to go on and win the Europa League.

Maybe things would have been different if Miguel Veloso's shot had gone in rather than hitting the bar at 1-1, but you can always look at moments in matches that could have gone the other way. The fact is we lost and next time we have to win.

Benoît Trémoulinas, Dynamo defender
We tried to push on in the second half but we couldn't find the final ball. I think we needed to be more clinical in front of goal as we had lots of chances. We really gave it a go in the second half and that meant they tried to take every opportunity to counter, but I really think we should have scored more goals.
