Jürgen Klopp, Dortmund coach
Zenit have built a great team. They can play some quality football and on a good day they will cause problems for any team. Different factors saw us struggle a bit today. We made a tactical mistake for the first goal we conceded, but you can never rule out a goal by a great player like Hulk. He's difficult to defend against.

There were a few moments when we didn't communicate well enough. If we talk to each other more we can defend certain situations better. You could sense a bit of tension and a degree of nervousness.

After we scored the equaliser the match wasn't decided, but we were calmer on the ball. We've got the experience of 20 or so Champions League matches, including a final, but we could have played a lot calmer in the first half.

We had a high tempo in our game, especially on the wings. We tried to get the ball into the centre quickly and often lost it like that. Zenit were then able to counterattack quickly and they were quite bold. Given the result of the first leg, they had to take risks.

My lads deserve to be in the quarter-finals because they always fight like wolves. We have qualified for the next round where we will meet the creme de la creme of European football.

Sergei Semak, Zenit interim coach
Of course, it is always very nice to win. If we could only have played a bit better at home and achieved a better result, with such a display today we would have had a chance to qualify. It is a real shame.

I would like to sincerely thank the players for their commitment and a great display. Obviously, there were mistakes as well but this match was a very positive one. I would also like to congratulate the Borussia Dortmund players, coaches and fans. They were better than us over the two legs and deserve to go through.

Why did I choose Vyacheslav Malafeev to play in goal? We do not have any doubts about his abilities. He was ready to play, that was the main thing, and I knew that he really wanted to play [after a long break]. The decision was not about Yuri Lodygin – he is a confident keeper. We have two good goalkeepers and both need a chance. After that, the coach decides who plays.
