• A UEFA European Under-18 Championship winner in 1984, defender Pintér went on to win 20 caps for Hungary, spending the bulk of his playing days with capital side Ferencváros, lifting two league titles and a Hungarian Cup.

• He briefly played in Belgium with Beerschot at the turn of the 1990s, winding down his career with spells at Győr and Diósgyõr among others.

• He took his first senior coaching post at Ferencváros, leading them to the championship in 2004; the following season he won the Hungarian Cup as coach of Sopron.

• After a stint with another of his old teams, Vasas, he rejoined Győr as coach in 2009; he left the club two years later, but returned in 2012 to steer them to the 2012/13 Hungarian title – Győr's first since 1983.

• Appointed Hungary coach on 19 December 2013, tasked with guiding his country to their first major final tournament since the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
