FC Porto captain Lucho González has left the Portuguese champions after his contract was terminated at his own request to facilitate a move to Qatari club Al-Rayyan SC.

Coach Paulo Fonseca confirmed the Argentinian midfielder's departure after Saturday's Portuguese League Cup success against CS Marítimo, a game Lucho did not participate in. It brings to an end the 33-year-old's second spell with the Dragons. "We agreed upon a request from the player," said Fonseca. "We were surprised with the situation but have the solutions to overcome his departure. Porto owes a lot to Lucho."

Lucho returned to the UEFA Europa League hopefuls in 2012 after two-and-a-half seasons at Olympique de Marseille and helped the club to two more Portuguese titles in his second spell, bringing his total there to six. He played 26 times for Porto this season, scoring four times, and maintained his outstanding record in the UEFA Champions League, having scored in each of the nine campaigns he has taken part in.
