Mancini ends Inter wait

Roberto Mancini has signed a three-year contract as coach of FC Internazionale after leaving S.S. Lazio.

'Long day'
"It's been a very long day but finally I can say that I'm the new Inter coach," said the former Italian international, who has signed a three-year contract. "Tomorrow I will direct my first training session." Mancini was Inter's first-choice replacement after parting company with Zaccheroni.

Lazio success
Ironically, Mancini also took over from Zaccheroni in 2002 when he took charge of Lazio after winning the Coppa Italia with AC Fiorentina. During his first season at the Olimpico stadium he helped Lazio reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Last season he led the team to Coppa Italia glory with a victory against Juventus FC in the final.

Champions League aim
Mancini is Inter's eleventh coach since 1995. His first target will be to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Nerazzurri will start the competition in the third qualifying round.
