Article body
AJ Auxerre have signed Lille OSC midfield player Benoît Cheyrou on a three-year contract.
Roux comment
The former France Under-21 captain "is training from this morning with us", according to Auxerre coach Guy Roux, who reportedly paid LOSC €500,000 to entice the 23-year-old away a year before the end of his contract.
Happy Cheyrou
"I'm happy to join Auxerre," said Cheyrou. "I spoke with Guy Roux and know he will rely on me for domestic competitions and the UEFA Cup." Cheyrou had been at LOSC for seven years, making 89 top-flight appearances in the process as well as four in the UEFA Champions League. He will face his former team-mates in the opening Ligue 1 fixture of the season on 7 August.
Arrivals and departures
Cheyrou is the third new face to arrive at Auxerre this summer after Belgian striker Luigi Pieroni and Czech defender René Bolf. However, the Burgundy-based side have lost the services of defender Jean-Alain Boumsong and forward Djibril Cissé.
