FC Barcelona defender Martín Montoya has reached agreement with the club on a new contract running for four years.

With his previous deal set to expire at the end of the season, the 22-year old full-back – a UEFA European Under-21 Championship winner with Spain last summer – will now remain a Barça player until the end of the 2017/18 campaign. Montoya has scored two goals in 53 appearances in all competitions for the Liga side since making his senior bow in a 3-0 Spanish top-flight win away to RCD Mallorca in February 2011.

The news comes a day after Gerardo Martino's team learned their UEFA Champions League quarter-final fate, with Club Atlético de Madrid set to challenge the four-time winners on 1 and 9 April.
