• Real Madrid CF's Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea FC's Frank Lampard made their 100th UEFA Champions League appearances in the first leg of their quarter-finals, becoming the 20th and 21st players to reach that landmark. The pair also made their debuts on the same night, 16 September 2003.

• Lampard became the 12th man to achieve the century with a single club and the first to do so with Chelsea.

• Ronaldo's 100 outings have been split between Manchester United FC (52 matches) and Madrid (48). He is on course to become the first to play 50 UEFA Champions League games apiece for two clubs.

• There will be no other new centurions this season as those players closest to the mark who remain in the competition – with a maximum four matches left – are FC Barcelona's Andrés Iniesta and Chelsea's John Terry, both on 95. Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United) and Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) have featured in 93 and 91 games respectively.

• Another milestone was attained on matchday nine as Franck Ribéry made his 50th UEFA Champions League appearance, all of them for FC Bayern München.

• Ronaldo's goal in Madrid's 3-0 home win against Borussia Dortmund was his 14th of the current campaign, equalling the highest figure recorded for a single European Cup season, set by AC Milan's José Altafini in 1962/63 and matched by Barcelona's Lionel Messi in 2011/12. It was the Portuguese international's 49th in the competition for Madrid and his 64th in total – three behind Messi and seven adrift of record marksman Raúl González.

• Manchester United's 1-1 home draw with Bayern marked their 199th UEFA Champions League fixture; the return will make them the first team to play 200 games in the competition. Should Real Madrid go on to the final, they will join them on that figure.

• The match at Old Trafford was also the 99th UEFA Champions League fixture staged at the stadium. Only one venue, San Siro, shared by AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano, has hosted more than 100 games in the competition (131).

• United and Bayern both played their 25th UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixture in Tuesday's draw – a tournament record. Barcelona and Real Madrid have each played two last-eight games fewer.

• Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 home victory over Chelsea enabled them to overtake AS Monaco FC as the French side with the highest goals-per-game ratio in the competition (1.811 to 1.795). Just two clubs, Madrid (2.071) and Barça (1.979), have superior figures to those of the Ligue 1 duo.

• With 32 goals in nine matches this term, Madrid are poised to post the competition's highest-ever goals-per-game ratio for a single campaign. Theirs currently stands at 3.56 and threatens the 2.92 they set jointly with Barcelona in 2011/12 (both teams scored 35 goals in 12 matches). The biggest number of goals scored in a campaign is Barça's 45 in 1999/2000, when the competition had a second group stage and the Catalans played a total of 16 fixtures.
