Huge challenge
New national team boss Jürgen Klinsmann, who played alongside Eilts at EURO '96™, was keen to appoint the coach, who led Germany at the recent UEFA European Under-19 Championship, to supervise the U21s. "The U21 team is a huge challenge," said Eilts, who won 31 caps for Germany. "The squad is packed with talented players who could play a part in the [FIFA] World Cup in Germany in 2006."
Stielike moves
Stielike had come in for criticism after the U21 side failed to thrive on home soil at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship this summer. He has taken on the role of coaching the U19 and U20 teams. "I am really looking forward to leading the U20s into the [FIFA] World [Youth] Championship in the Netherlands and want to qualify for the European Championship with the U19s."
