Borussia Dortmund have taken control of Group D with three wins but despite their 4-0 triumph in Istanbul they will be aware that Germany has become a happy hunting ground for Galatasaray AŞ.

• Two early Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goals eased BVB to victory on matchday three, Marco Reus and Adrián Ramos completing the scoring.

Previous meetings
• Galatasaray came out on top when the sides met in the fourth round of the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup, winning 2-0 away ahead of a 0-0 home draw.

• The lineups at the BVB Stadion on 2 March 2000 were:
Dortmund: Lehmann, Baumann, Stević, Kohler, Nijhuis, But, Leonardo, Ricken, Evanilson (Reina 31), Bobic, Ikpeba.
Galatasaray: Taffarel, Bülent, Alberto, Okan (Hasan 81), Ergün, Emre, Arif (Mandinga 86), Suat, Hagi (Ahmet 85), Ümit Davala, Hakan Şükür.

• Hakan Şükür and Gheorghe Hagi scored in Dortmund to give Galatasaray a platform to progress in the competition and it eventually led them to the winners' podium. In the Copenhagen final, Galatasaray beat Arsenal FC 4-1 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes, becoming the first Turkish team to win a UEFA competition.

• The teams were also paired in the 1997/98 UEFA Champions League group stage, Dortmund winning 1-0 in Istanbul and 4-1 at home.

Match background

Dortmund
• Winners in 1996/97 and runners-up two seasons ago, Dortmund are in their tenth group stage campaign.

• Last season they reached the quarter-finals, a 2-0 second-leg home win over Real Madrid CF not enough to overturn a 3-0 away defeat.

• BVB beat Beşiktaş JK 3-1 on aggregate in the 1989/90 European Cup Winners' Cup first round.

• Dortmund beat Arsenal 2-0 on matchday one before a 3-0 win at Anderlecht, Ciro Immobile scoring in both matches.

Galatasaray
• Galatasaray have an impressive record in Germany, winning as many games (five) as they have lost, with the other three fixtures ending in draws.

• Galatasaray have been triumphant in four of their last six visits to face Bundesliga opposition, losing only once.

• Cimbom have lost their last four UEFA Champions League away games, and five of the last six. The other, at Juventus on matchday two last season, ended 2-2

• The Süper Lig runners-up are in their 13th group stage campaign and their third in succession, having missed out in the five previous seasons.

• On matchday one Burak Yılmaz struck in added time to rescue a point at home to Anderlecht. Two weeks later Galatasaray lost 4-1 at Arsenal, Burak on target from the penalty spot.

Coach and player links
• Five Galatasaray players were born in Germany: Hamit Altıntop (Gelsenkirchen), Hakan Balta (Berlin), Tarık Çamdal and Furkan Özçal (Munich) and Yasin Öztekin (Dortmund).

• There are three players in the Dortmund squad of Turkish descent: Nuri Şahin, İlkay Gündoğan and Burak Çamoğlu.

• Yasin played for Dortmund's reserve side between 2006 and 2011 and worked under Jürgen Klopp. He made only one substitute appearance for the senior team, a 1-1 draw with Bayer 04 Leverkusen on 31 January 2009.

• During his time at FC Schalke 04 and FC Bayern München, Hamit faced Dortmund 13 times in the Bundesliga. In his first game against BVB he scored both Schalke goals in a 2-2 draw on 2 August 2003.

• Nuri Şahin won his first senior cap for Turkey in a friendly against Germany on 8 October 2005, scoring the winner only three minutes after coming off the bench in a 2-1 triumph. Aged 17 years 32 days, he was his country's second youngest international.

• Ciro Immobile was included in Italy's 2014 FIFA World Cup squad by coach Cesare Prandelli.
