Sylvain Marveaux ended a barren run in front of goal in style as EA Guingamp eased to a 2-0 victory over PAOK FC in Group K.

The 28-year-old went into the fixture still looking to get off the mark this season in what was his tenth appearance. A first-half miss hinted at more frustration but two excellently taken strikes in four minutes at the start of the second period kick-started his campaign and Guingamp's UEFA Europa League hopes.

In truth, the scoreline could have been more one-sided. After a cautious opening the French side quickly took a firm grip on proceedings and never relinquished it. Marveaux squandered a fine opportunity after 21 minutes and the pace and movement between him, Claudio Beauvue and Ronnie Schwartz in particular caused one problem after the next for PAOK.

The Greek team held on, but two minutes after half-time their resolve was broken as Schwartz's attempted lob was parried by Panagiotis Glykos into the path of Marveaux. He still had plenty to do as he lashed in with his right foot, then underlined his return to form with his left, bending in a free-kick to make it 2-0. PAOK improved, taking the game to the hosts, but there was no way back.
