FC Barcelona secured Spain's 15th European Cup in Berlin, taking the country three victories clear of Italy and England in the competition's all-time standings. It was also the first time the trophy has been won by teams from the same nation two years running in the UEFA Champions League era.

Real Madrid CF recorded Spain's 14th triumph last term by defeating Club Atlético de Madrid, and Barcelona have now increased that number with success No15 against Juventus. Juve's loss keeps Italy, like England, on 12 victories, though Serie A lead the Liga 27-25 in final appearances.

In the UEFA Champions League era, Spain now have eight wins to Italy's five, with Barcelona level with Real Madrid on a record four triumphs. Both the Liga and Serie A have produced 12 finalists over the 23 seasons.
