Parma FC striker Massimo Maccarone will be out of action for about four weeks after suffering a knee injury in the UEFA Cup game against NK Maribor on Thursday.

Surgery required
Parma, who won the UEFA Cup twice in the 1990s, qualified for the group stage after a 3-2 aggregate win against the Slovenian side in the first round. The 24-year-old player, currently on loan from Middlesbrough FC, will need to undergo a surgery on the meniscus of his right knee and will miss the first game of the group stage on October 21.
