Deisler returns to Munich

Sebastian Deisler will not play at Juventus FC after returning to Germany to undergo psychiatric treatment.

Treatment today
The 24-year-old asked general manager Uli Hoeness whether he could return to Munich shortly after arriving in Turin for the Group C fixture yesterday. Hoeness said of Deisler's situation: "He asked to speak to me after lunch and told me that he did not feel well. He is going to see Professor Florian Holzboer on Tuesday for treatment."

International recall
Deisler spent several weeks at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich after admitting himself in November 2003, yet Hoeness believes the player's mental condition is "not serious" - adding: "If it was we wouldn't have let him travel alone." One of German football's most talented players, Deisler started the season impressively to earn a recall for the September friendly against Brazil having been out of international football for a year.

Off at half-time
However, his form has dipped in recent weeks and he was substituted at half-time in Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by FC Schalke 04 "because he did not interpret his role as I had done," said Bayern coach Felix Magath. Deisler had been detailed to support lone striker Roy Makaay but instead sat deep to collect the loose ball. "It's a pity that I couldn't prevent him from getting involved in such a pressurised situation," Magath added.
