Kicking out
The Roma midfielder was due to be suspended for one game after being shown a red card in the 87th minute of the UEFA Champions League Group B encounter, but the ban has been extended to three matches by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body after reviewing video evidence. De Rossi was sent off after he kicked out at Leverkusen's Jacek Krzynówek.
Panucci punished
De Rossi's team-mate Christian Panucci has also seen his statutory ban extended. He was red-carded in the 61st minute for elbowing Krzynówek as the two players rose for a header. The Control and Disciplinary Body has decided that this example of particularly rough play merited a two-match suspension. Roma have until midnight on Monday 25 October to appeal against the decisions.
