Umeå face moment of truth

Umeå IK's bid for a third straight UEFA Women's Cup is on the line as three quarter-finals conclude on Sunday.

Away goal
Djurgården/Alvsjö raced into a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the first leg in Stockholm on Wednesday, only for Laura Kalmari to volley a late away goal for Umeå - who have reached all three finals since this tournament began. Umeå overcame the same opponents 6-2 in the concluding Swedish league game of the season a week ago, but Djurgården/Alvsjö had already retained the title.

Ljungberg 'doubtful'
Hanna Ljungberg was left out of Umeå's starting lineup on Wednesday with a thigh injury, but was sent on with 20 minutes to go. A similar selection dilemma confronts Andrée Jeglertz on Sunday, and the Umeå coach said: "She is doubtful, just like she was on Wednesday but the injury did not get worse after she played, so we are hopeful. We have to play better than we did on Wednesday as we looked a bit shaky at times, but we are confident that we can beat [Djurgården/Alvsjö]."

Fagerström doubt
The visitiors are again without striker Venus James and defender Jane Törnqvist through injury, while midfielder Linda Fagerström, who scored on Wednesday despite playing with a kneecap problem, may also miss out.

'High hopes'
Coach Thomas Dennerby said: "It is a shame that we conceded a late goal like we did on Wednesday, but the players are raring to go, and we have got high hopes that we can progress." Dennerby has just one game left in charge of Djurgården/Alvsjö after Sunday before joining the national team set-up - the Swedish Cup final against Umeå on 6 November.

Torres ahead
The winner of the all-Swedish tie will know their semi-final opponents on Sunday: Arsenal LFC or Torres Terra Sarda. Arsenal trail 2-0 from their trip to Sardinia last weekend, and manager Vic Akers - whose team reached the last four two seasons ago - is hoping for an improvement from the English champions in their home return at Boreham Wood FC.

Arsenal improvement
"We have got to improve," he told Arsenal's website. "It was a shame in the first leg because we had been playing very well of late." Teenage defender Hayley Kemp dislocated her knee in the first game and will be out for some time - but Yvonne Tracy could return after nine months out, also with a knee injury. Striker Angela Banks is expected to shake off a back complaint and play.

Portsdam welcome Energy
Elsewhere, 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam 71, who deprived 2001/02 European champions 1. FFC Frankfurt of the German title last season, welcome FC Energy Voronezh following a 1-1 draw in Russia. Striker Petra Wimbersky has a knee injury and is doubtful, as is fellow forward Anja Mittag who was hurt on German Under-19 duty in midweek

Vital strike
Potsdam coach Bernd Schröder admitted that their late away goal last Sunday was invaluable. "Inken Becher's goal four minutes from the end was extremely important for us because it gives us every chance of reaching the next round," said Schröder, whose side are third in the German league, six points adrift of Frankfurt.

Zhdanova banned
Energy are without Ukrainian defender Nataliya Zhdanova who is suspended, but the visitors welcome striker Natalia Emelianova back from a similar ban. The winners of this tie go on to meet SK Trondheims-Ørn or FC Bobruichanka - with the former holding a 4-0 lead ahead of their home leg on 6 November.
