German glee, Belgian bother

Group G reaction: VfB Stuttgart were grateful for three points while KSK Beveren hit rock bottom.

At the start we were nervous, and you could see the effects of our recent poor results, but if you want success you have to fight for it and this can be difficult. However, we are happy with the result, we won, even if 3-0 flatters us a bit. Stuttgart coach Matthias Sammer

In football, the team that scores goals is always more likely to win. Had Simão's chance gone in, things could have been different. But over the 90 minutes, Stuttgart were better, and I hope we can meet them later in the competition. We knew this would be a difficult game, but we did well in the first half. Losing is never nice, especially like this as my players knew all about Stuttgart's attacking threat yet still conceded three goals. Benfica coach Giovanni Trapattoni

There's not much more you can say after a 6-1 victory. Our approach was excellent and when we play like that, you expect to score goals and win games. Our fans were brilliant and were a big motivation for the players. We now have to concentrate on our remaining group matches after this successful start. Dinamo Zagreb coach Nenad Gracan

We didn't know Dinamo were such a good team. We knew that Stuttgart were, because we have had the chance to watch them, but we were surprised by how good Dinamo were. We thought this would be a good group for us to be in - but it's not. I am disappointed. We are not good enough. Reaching the group stage has been a success in itself for our team. Beveren coach Herman Helleputte
