Striker blow for PSV

A shoulder injury means PSV Eindhoven's Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink may well not play again this year.

No break
The 26-year-old striker landed on his right shoulder following a tussle during the league match in Arnhem, which PSV won 2-0. An examination showed that he did not suffer a break though the damage is such that club doctor Cees-Rein van den Hoogenband believes he will be out for between four to six weeks.

Misses finale
It means Vennegoor of Hesselink will miss PSV's final two matches in the UEFA Champions League group stage as well as the rest of the first half of the Eredivisie season. The leaders of Group E, PSV are at home to Arsenal FC on Wednesday and away to Panathinaikos FC on Matchday 6.

'Torn ligament'
The player said: "I do not remember what exactly happened, but I fell down and landed the wrong way. It hurt very much, but nothing has been broken. A first diagnosis says I have torn the ligament between the collar bone and the shoulder-blade."
