De Boeck career in doubt

RSC Anderlecht defender Glen De Boeck has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

Cruciate ligament damage
Former Belgian international De Boeck was making his 300th league appearance when he was hurt against KVC Westerlo on Saturday, leaving the pitch in the 80th minute. After an examination, specialist Marc Martens diagnosed damage to cruciate ligaments in the left knee, requiring surgery.

'Heavy blow'
The 33-year-old, who is out for at least six months, said: "It happened after an aerial duel. I felt something after I landed, but I still on played for 15 minutes, before I asked to be replaced. This is such a heavy blow." De Boeck, whose Anderlecht contract runs until summer 2006, suffered the same injury in February, again against Westerlo, and only returned to action on 2 October, having also undergone cartilage surgery in his other knee in May 2003.

Future decision
Coach Hugo Broos admitted: "This is very bad for the club, but much worse for the player himself. Glen has just got back to fitness after an intense recovery program, and now he has to do it all over again." The club, whose European campaign for the season will end on 7 December after their fixture at FC Internazionale Milano, have advised the player to think for a few days before making a decision about his future.
