Partizan light the way

Group E reaction: FK Partizan and Villarreal CF joined leaders Middlesbrough FC in the last 32.

FK Partizan coach Vladimir Vermezovic and his Villarreal CF counterpart Manuel Luis Pellegrini were looking forward to the next stage of the UEFA Cup after sealing their places in the last 32 along with Group E leaders Middlesbrough FC, who did not play on Thursday. S.S. Lazio and Egaleo FC were both eliminated after their 2-2 draw in Greece.

I am very happy, but it was a very hard match. Villarreal started better and scored first and we had to find something extra so I changed the formation at half-time from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2. The additional forward, Nikola Grubješic, gave us more power. Now we have a light for future. Partizan coach Vladimir Vermezovic

We only played well for the first 20 minutes and after that Partizan controlled the match. But I am satisfied with the result. We had three brilliant chances to score in the first ten minutes of the second half, missed them, and cannot do that again, because we will be punished for it. Partizan deserved their goal and I think the public can be satisfied with the game. Villarreal coach Manuel Luis Pellegrini

If we had been a bit more aggressive in the box we would have won – we had some good chances in the second half. The result will not be forgotten at Egaleo – in three games in the group stage we've only had one bad half of football against Partizan. That's very important for a young team. Egaleo coach Stéphane Demol

Lazio coach Domenico Caso and his players refused to talk to the media and did not attend the press conference or speak in the mixed zone after the game.
