Utrecht denied De Jong

Dutch side FC Utrecht will be without captain Jean-Paul de Jong for their final UEFA Cup Group C fixture.

Hospital tests
Midfield player De Jong will be out for three weeks after picking up a groin injury in Sunday's Eredivisie defeat by SBV Vitesse. Hospital tests confirmed he would not be able to play in Utrecht's final Group C fixture at home to FK Austria Wien on 16 December. Utrecht are effectively out of the tournament, having lost all three UEFA Cup games so far.

Mols misery
There was more bad news for the Dutch Cup winners when striker Michael Mols received a five-match domestic ban. The former Rangers FC player has accepted the suspension from the Royal Netherlands Football Association after television pictures showed him punching De Graafschap defender Milan Berck Beelenkamp during a home game on 28 November. He will be ineligible for Eredivisie duty until Utrecht face NAC Breda on 6 February.
