Sporting's Peseiro picks up touchline ban

José Peseiro has been banned from the touchline for the return leg of the UEFA Cup tie with Feyenoord.

Return leg ban
UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body announced the verdict on Monday after studying the case, which arose when Peseiro was dismissed in the closing stages of the game at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, which Sporting won 2-1. The ban will apply to the return leg in the Netherlands on 24 February.

Referee criticism
The UEFA disciplinary body heard from official match reports that Peseiro had left the technical area on several occasions during the first half to criticise the referee's decisions, and was involved in an incident in which he shouted at one of the assistant referees - with referee Stefan Messner eventually banishing him from the touchline.

Banned from tunnel
UEFA ruled that for the return leg for which he is suspended, Peseiro will be able to watch the game from the stands. However, he will not be allowed in the dressing rooms, the technical zone and the tunnel, or on the bench or the pitch before and during the match.
