Chelsea forced to disregard Duff

Damien Duff is out of Chelsea FC's starting lineup to face FC Barcelona due to a knee injury.

Tight midfield
The Republic of Ireland winger, who damaged his knee in a clash with Newcastle United FC goalkeeper Shay Given during Chelsea's FA Cup fifth-round defeat at the weekend, was omitted from the starting eleven named in advance by manager José Mourinho on Tuesday afternoon. Joe Cole will join Tiago, Claude Makelele and Frank Lampard in a tight midfield four on Wednesday night. "He cannot run, his injury is very painful," Mourinho said of the Irishman.

Drogba returns
There was brighter news for Chelsea with the inclusion of fit-again defender William Gallas, who limped off on Sunday, and the return of striker Didier Drogba to the starting lineup after three weeks out with a thigh strain. The Ivorian will play in attack alongside Eidur Gudjohnsen. The Newcastle cup tie also cost Chelsea the services of left-back Wayne Bridge, out for the season with a double ankle fracture.
