Norway retain Group B hope

France need a point against Germany to reach the semi-finals while Norway must defeat Italy to stand a chance.

France need only a draw against Germany on Sunday to qualify for the UEFA WOMEN’S EURO 2005™ semi-finals along with the holders, while Norway must defeat Italy and hope the other Group B result goes their way.

French aim
Germany moved on to six points last night and are through, France have four, Norway one and eliminated Italy none. Therefore, if France beat Germany in Warrington they will finish first and second respectively regardless of the result between Italy and Norway in Preston. A draw in Warrington would see Germany advance as group winners and France as runners-up.

Norway want win
However, a Germany win would give Norway an opportunity to catch France, but they would have to defeat Italy. Even then, they would have to make sure their goal difference is better than France’s or, if they finish level, their number of goals scored.

Level
If Norway win 3-1 and France lose 1-0, or any similar combination that would see their goal difference and goals scored both end level, then second place would be decided by their Fair Play coefficients, which will be confirmed later. If they are also level lots will be drawn.
