Denmark duo winning fitness race

Denmark defenders Bettina Falk and Mariann Gajhede Knudsen should be fit to take on Finland on Saturday.

Denmark defender Bettina Falk has recovered from an ankle injury meaning coach Peter Bonde should be able to field his strongest side in their concluding Group A fixture.

Ankle knock
The 24-year-old right-back took a knock to her ankle in the latter stages of Wednesday's 2-1 victory against England and had to go to hospital for scans. However, they revealed no damage and she is expected to line up against Finland in Blackpool on Saturday. Fellow defender Mariann Gajhede Knudsen also sat out training yesterday with a swollen knee but is expected to be fit.

Room for improvement
Denmark top Group A and need a point to seal a spot in the last four - and three to win the pool. "We're so close to the semi-finals now that we won't let it go," said striker Merete Pedersen. Her captain, Katrine Pedersen, was more cautious. "We have to be better at closing down the Finns than we were against the English if we want to win," she said.
