Andrejevs to step down at Skonto

Hopes dashed
Andrejevs, also coach of Latvia, has yet to meet with club president Guntis Indriksons but is not expected to change his mind. The Latvian side's record European loss in the first leg of their tie in Skopje yesterday all but ended their hopes of facing FC Lokomotiv Moskva in the next stage.

Poor form
The 48-year-old took charge of both club and country towards the end of last year when Aleksandrs Starkovs departed to coach FC Spartak Moskva. Since then, Skonto have struggled in their domestic league, trailing leaders FHK Liepajas Metalurgs by nine points after 15 rounds. The club have been Latvian champions for the past 14 seasons.

Riga return
Skonto welcome Rabotnicki for the return leg in Riga on 20 July. It is thought that 60-year-old former Latvia coach Revaz Dzodzuashvili, who currently has an administrative role at the club, could replace the outgoing Andrejevs.
