FK Crvena Zvezda, the 1991 European champions, have been drawn against NK Inter Zaprešic of Croatia following today's UEFA Cup second qualifying round draw in Nyon, Switzerland.
The tie was the pick of the 31 matches produced following the conclusion of the first qualifying round last night. Inter coach Srecko Bogdan said: "They will be a difficult opponent. Crvena Zvezda are a big club with great history and tradition. Nevertheless, our goal is to reach the next round and they are not unbeatable."
Crvena Zvezda forward Nikola Zigic was in equally confident mood. He said: "It's nice to be playing against a Croatian club. We will be very motivated. We are better than Inter and we will win. I'm really optimistic."
Another eye-catching contest will be the meeting of Liechtenstein's FC Vaduz with Turkish side Besiktas JK while Germany's 1. FSV Mainz 05 will take on Keflavík of Iceland. The games will be played over two legs on 11 and 25 August.
The 31 second qualifying round survivors will advance to September's first round proper, where 49 other teams will lie in wait, including holders PFC CSKA Moskva and the 16 clubs eliminated in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.
