Celtic FC striker Chris Sutton has been ruled out for up to four weeks after fracturing a cheekbone in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League second round qualifying round defeat against FC Artmedia Bratislava.
The 32-year Englishman will undergo an operation early next week after colliding with his captain Neil Lennon midway through the first half during their 5-0 defeat in Slovakia. He is certain to meet the return on Tuesday as Celtic attempt to overturn the daunting deficit in Glasgow, and should they make it through Sutton is unlikely to make the first leg of the third qualifying round tie against FK Partizan or FC Sheriff on 9/10 August.
Sutton's injury also keeps him out of the opening games of the Scottish Premier League season, including Saturday's opener at Motherwell FC, against who a defeat cost Celtic the title last season. Celtic visit champions Rangers FC for the first 'Old Firm' game of the campaign on 20 August.
