Sychev struck down by knee injury

FC Lokomotiv Moskva striker Dmitri Sychev will be out for six months after undergoing cruciate surgery.

FC Lokomotiv Moskva striker Dmitri Sychev will be out of competitive action for up to six months after undergoing surgery in Stuttgart today.

Late collision
Sychev, who scored in each leg of Lokomotiv's second qualifying round defeat of FK Rabotnicki, damaged cruciate ligaments in his left knee in a collision with FC Rubin Kazan goalkeeper Pavel Kharchik in the final minutes of a league game on Saturday. He is expected to be out of action for the next five or six months. "The injury to his left knee is serious," said Lokomotiv doctor Saveli Myshalov.

Surgery worry
The 21-year-old underwent surgery in Stuttgart today after being flown to Germany to have his knee examined. He will be sorely missed as Lokomotiv start their UEFA Champions League campaign with a third qualifying round tie against SK Rapid Wien this week. Sychev has become a key figure for the defending Russian champions and league leaders, scoring 21 goals in 48 appearances.
