Liverani limps out of action

S.S. Lazio have lost the services of Fabio Liverani for a month with a leg injury.

S.S. Lazio's preparations for the start of their Serie A and UEFA Cup campaigns have been dealt a blow with the loss of Fabio Liverani for a month.

Calf problem
The Italian international midfield player pulled his left calf muscle during a friendly match with SSC Napoli and, after undergoing tests, doctors have said the 26-year-old will not return in the next four weeks. The loss of Liverani, who has two caps but missed out on the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals, means Lazio coach Roberto Mancini may have to use playmaker Stefano Fiore in a more withdrawn role.

Crespo and Nesta gone
Lazio fans have had a disappointing summer, having seen key men Alessandro Nesta and striker Hernán Crespo sold to Milan AC and Internazionale FC respectively, while Roberto Baronio has also departed to AC Perugia. The club begin their Italian league campaign against AC Chievo Verona on Sunday before welcoming Greek side Xanthi FC for the first leg of their UEFA Cup first round tie on Thursday.
